How easy is it to divorce in Canada?

Like most answers, that really depends on your individual circumstances. There are a number of different factors which affect the difficulty level of your divorce.

1. Children: If there are no children involved less paperwork is necessary, including rather detailed financial disclosure.

2. Cooperation: If you and your spouse have settled on everything and are working together to obtain your divorce than you can reduce the steps and number of documents you will need by filing jointly in any province other than Alberta and Manitoba. Cooperation certainly helps in those two provinces as well but not as much as in provinces where you can file jointly.

3. Accurate information: If you make mistakes in your paperwork these mistakes will need to be corrected and correcting them can take a lot more work than getting them right in the first place. This only applies to documents that you have actually filed with the court. When ordering our service you can have us easily revise the documents we prepare. That way you can get started based on the information you have at hand and provide more complete or accurate information later on, before you file your documents with the court.

4. Following instruction: It should go without saying but obviously if you follow the directions provided by our service or whatever other sources knowledgeable advice you are using it will go a lot smoother for you than trying to figure it out yourself, even by using “common sense”. Unfortunately, legal niceties do not necessarily always conform to common sense.
